Show Weight clinic series starts Saturday, May 10 Responding to an apparent need in the community, the Vernal Family Health Center will again start a weekly weight clinic which will run for four weeks. After the first four visits, there is a graduate class that meets briefly every week for weigh-in. The purpose of the clinic is to teach people about obesity and how to implement im-plement exercise, dieting, and medication to achieve optimal weight control. A surprising number of people in our community have been going to Salt Lake City to be treated by an osteopath with diuretics, laxatives, thyroid, and speed. This treatment has resulted in several people being hospitalized for arrhythmias of the heart, nervous disorders, and in one case, acute phychosis. State authorities, to the best of our knowledge, have closed these clinics at the present time and they are no longer treating patients. The attractiveness of these clinics is a testimonial to the need for an effective ef-fective weight -control program and for this reason, the Vernal Family Health Center, in conjunction with the Univeristy of Utah, is planning to respond to this need. The physiology of fat and how it is stored and broken down, etc. will be explained. A practical, no-nonsense diet will be given. The importance of exercise will be stressed. Also, for compulsive eaters, a new drug has been found to be very effective in. curbing complusive eating and will be used. This drug is the only one, at the present time, that has been found to be safe and effective. The cost of the clinic is as follows: The first lecture is free. The remaining three classes are ten dollars each. The graduates are on an incentive plan. The next class will begin May 10 and will be held at the Uintah County Hospital Conference Room. It starts at 7:30 and lasts an hour to an hour and a half. If you are interested in attending, please register by calling 789-5113. The space is limited, but the Vernal Family Health Center will conduct a number of these seminars. Also, any graduates who would like to resume weigh-in will meet at 6:45 p.m. every Thursday. |
