ANSWER: If present cancer rates continue, an estimated 2,600 persons in Utah will eventually develop cancer in 1980. Renee Shiner, chair of the current Cancer Crusade in Uintah County, said this estimate, based on current population popula-tion projections, dramatizes the need to ;step up the battle against the disease. Local volunteers are currently J: visiting homes to collect donations and represent life-saving educational J;', materials as part of the annual ; crusade, Mrs. Shiner said. "It is imperative that we check the r spread of cancer through increased fun-l'. fun-l'. ding for continued research, improved I'- treatment and early detection pro-; pro-; ' grams," Mrs. Shiner commented. : To achieve our goal of wiping out ! : cancer in our lifetime, we must all . make a personal commitment in the i form of an increased donation and an-;;nual an-;;nual physical checkups for ourselves and our families," she added.
