Show National Guard Week scheduled April 7-12 Next week has been proclaimed as National Guard Week in Vernal. According Ac-cording to Lt. Kenneth Fisher, commanding com-manding officer of the Vernal unit, the April 7 to 12 week will kick-off with an address by Major General Maurice L. Watts at the Vernal Area Chamber of Commerce Directors' luncheon meeting Tuesday noon. Gen. Watts is the Adjutant General of the Utah National Guard, a position he has held for 16 years. He will speak on the subject, "The economic impact of the Guard in Vernal." On Friday and Saturday, April 11 and 12 the 23rd Army Band organized in the Utah National Guard will visit here. Friday a music clinic has been scheduled for Uintah District schools and Saturday the band will lead a National Guard parade downtown. The parade will start at 11 a.m. at the Vernal Junior High School and proceed down Main Street to 5th East and south to trie Guard Armory, said Lt. Fisher. The parade will contain every piece of equipment the Vernal unit can get on Main Street, Fisher said. Two helicopters will slowly fly along the parade route and land at the Armory. At noon Saturday an open house will be held at the Armory with refreshments refresh-ments and equipment displays until 3 p.m. Other activities that afternoon will include a Bantam basketball game and "Operation Clean Up". WATTS, to speak here during dur-ing guard week. operation will involve the removal of old car bodies from the city and county areas to help beautify the area. Heavy equipment will start picking up car bodies at 12:30 p.m., those desiring removals should call the Guard Armory. |
