Show BLM Examines Local Tracts to Determine Unpatented Claims As part of a process to determine de-termine surface rights on unpatented unpat-ented mining claims in the Mil-ford-Cedar City area of Iron and Beaver Counties, the U. S. Bureau of Land Management recently re-cently completed an examination of BLM-admlnistered lands in the area. The tracts examined are mainly main-ly within Townships 30, 31, 33 and 34 South and ranges 10, 12, 15 and 16 west The area contains con-tains timber and range Improvement Improve-ment projects conr'sting of fences, fenc-es, receeding projects and stock watering facilities. According to R. D. Nielson, Utah State BLM Director, the procedure pro-cedure Is required under Public Law 167, which provides a means by which the Government may manage and dispose of vegetative vegeta-tive resources on unpatended mining claims. However, the procedure pro-cedure in no way limits individuals individ-uals in prospecting for and mining min-ing valuable minerals which may be located under U. S. Mining laws. The BLM procedure enables the United States to manage the surface sur-face resources on land covered by unpatented mining claims located lo-cated before July 23. 1955. On all mining claims located after that date, the law provides that surface rights remain with the United States until the claims go to patent. |
