Show Postmaster Urges Cooperation In Christmas Mailing Stressing the need for everyone to cooperate on his 1961 "Mall Early for Christmas" campaign Postmaster Rulon S. Wood said today, "Early mailing of all Christmas cards and gifts Is the biggest single factor In getting everything delivered before Christmas." Naturally, the Post Office Department De-partment plans to expand its facilities and provide extra help during the Christmas rush, but in the final analysis, if you'll follow these three simple rules, you c be certain not to disappoint disap-point friends and loved ones on Christmas Day Wrap your Christmas gifts securely Be sure they are addressed clearly and correctly and Mall all your gifts and cards early. The postmaster said further, "I hate to see folks take chances on mailing poorly wrapped packages. packag-es. Despite careful handling every year, too many package break open in transit and too often of-ten we have to puzzle over names and addresses which are incomplete incom-plete or simply cannot be read at all." For your gift packages secure heavy wrapping paper, sturdy corrugated cartons, strong cord and adhesive tape. Remember, also, that you can include your Christmas card or letter inside your gift packages If you will add the appropriate First Class mail stamps to the postage for the package itself. "If you have any articles of unusual size or bulk, better check with the post office before be-fore attempting to mall them," the postmaster warns. The limits on size and weight of packages varies, depending on where you mall your package from. As an extra precaution against loss. Postmaster Wood advised placing plac-ing both your return address and the recipient's address Inside the carton or package before It la wrapped. If you use Christmas stickers or seals, put them on the back of your Christmas cards and packages so that they will not conflict with the address on the front Make sure that correct pos- tage is firmly affixed to each card and package. When mailing gifts, it's a good idea to place a piece of transparent cellophane tape over the address portion of the label to prevent defacing It in transit. And always be sure, of course, to include the recipient's recip-ient's full name, street address, city, zone and state. Because the entire Christmas mailing period is primarily a battle against time. "Do it now" is the slogan from here on In. Don't put off your Christmas mailings while you still have ample time because this means that dreaded pile-ups will occur at the post office, causing unavoidable un-avoidable slowdowns in deliveries deliver-ies as the holiday approaches. The postmaster asks the cooperation co-operation of all business firms to delay mailing circulars and catalogs until after Dec. 25, to keep the mails clear for the Christmas rush. The postmaster said he is most appreciative of the Interest and cooperation shown by the mailing mail-ing public so far, and reminds us that all mall going long distances dis-tances should be sent by Dec. 10. Christmas paskages for local delivery de-livery should be mailed not later lat-er than Dec. 15, and be sure to mall your Christmas cards for nearby destinations at least a week before Christmas. He said further, that through the excellent cooperation of the public during recent Christmas seasons, he has been able to get all of the Christmas cards and packages dispatched and delivered deliv-ered before Christmas Eve. |
