Last Monday a fire started in an old rear shed on the vest side of Main Street.. No wind was blowing and the fire department promptly extinguished the blaze. The only thing that saved that quarter from a diiastrous Are was the absence of wind. If the wind can always be depended upon to be elsewhere on occasions lifce this, of course there is no need of cleaning up the back alleys of rubbish and tearing down of inflammable and unsightly shacks and fences, but this is a long chance to take, and the only safe and sensible course to be pursued, if the town is to be adequately safeguarded from fire, i a general elimination of all such risks, A "Clean-up Day" would be worth while, both iu helping the appearance of the town and in dollars and cents, as well.
