Show Union falls out of first place tie The Union Cougars dropped out of a first place tie in Region Nine with the Wasatch Wasps due to a 77 to 65 setback, set-back, Friday, to the Pioneers in Lehi. The Pioneers blasted the cats in the first quarter, 28 to 9. The score at the end of the second quarter was 44 to 26 in favor of Lehi. The Cougars put in 16 points in the third quarter to narrow Lehi's lead to 57 to 42. Union outscored Lehi, 23 to 20, in the fourth quarter. Clay Harrison was the top scorer for the Cats with 14 counters. Also scoring points were: Steve Ferguson, 13; Tracy Nielsen, 12; Tracy Dye, 9; Steve Robb, 5; Brandon Draper, 4; Kary Eldredge, 4; Kyle Mansfield, 2 and Jerry Kulland, 2. Union put in 27 field goals and hit 11 out of 18 free throws. The top scorers for Lehi were Brad Greenwood, 18 and Burningham, 14. Lehi put in 25 field goals and hit 25 out of 36 free throws. Wasatch is in first place in Region Nine at 3-0. Union and Lehi are tied for second place at 2-1. Grantsville and Morgan are tied for fourth place at 1-2. Intermountain is in fifth place at 0-3. The Union Cougars will host the Wasatch Wasps, Friday and will battle Intermountain on the road, February 1. Wasatch toppled Intermountain, 90 to 73, Friday. Wasatch's top scorers were Steve Provost, 31 and Darrell Zenger, 23. Cook and Burg scored 14 points-each. points-each. The. Wasps hit 19 out of 32 free throws, and put in 34 field goals.
