Who were the people who placed these sacred records in stone jars and hid them in caves? In the spring of 1947 a goatherd was grazing his goats near the Dead Sea in an area known as the Wadae Qumran. One of the goats strayed and the goatherd climed the hillside in search of it and discovered a cave in the face of the rock. Peering into the cave he tossed toss-ed a stone into it and heard something crack and break. Later he and a friend wriggled through the small opening hoping to find a golden treasure but found instead a number of leather rolls in an unknown writing. This discovery proved to be far richer than gold. Who were the Ancient Americans? Did they come from Asia or Europe? By land or by water? Vernon W. Mattson Jr.'s book, "The Dead Sea Scrolls and Other Discoveries", tells of a people known as the "Ancient Ones," the Toltecs, the Ulmecas, and the Mayans. They also kept records on clay tablets, on gold and silver, copper and bronze plates and buried them in stone boxes.
