Show OI Sdnzjps I'Jin I First Ifcoioa Dot The Woods Cross High Swim Team defeated South i High to capture their third straight win and their first region meet. The final outcome out-come was South 63, Woods Cross 108. STARTING the Wildcats on their way was the medley team that consisted of Sappen-field, Sappen-field, Donaldson, Egly and H. Donaldson. Woods Cross is jj very fortunate to have a great deal of depth and usually places two relays in each event. Scoring points on a very good second relay was K. Nelson, B. Jensen, L. Hansen, and Steve Pryor. Dave Hansen continues to lower the school record in the 200 yard freestyle with an excellent ex-cellent time of 2:04.4. A pleasant surprise in the 200 free was Ken Wagnon who finished a strong third and Darin Williams took fourth. SOPHOMORE Don Donaldson Donald-son captured first place on the 200 yard individual medley. "Mighty Mouse" Bruce Kitchen, continues to improve j his personal best time in the I 200 yard individual medley by swimming a 2:35.1 Larry Hansen finished fourth. Another young outstanding swimmer is freshman Jon Lee who set a new schooT record of 25.03 in the 50 yard freestyle. Harold Donaldson and Steve Kartchner tied for third with the time of 26.8. IN THE one meter springboard spring-board diving competition freshmen Ryan Gee took third and Mark Huntington finished fourth. It was a very close race in the 100 yard butterfly when Jon Lee just out-touched teammate Don Donaldson. Jon's time was 1:00. 3 and Don finished with the time of 1:00.8. Another fine sophomore swimmer Is Larry Hansen who finished fourth with his best time of 1:13.6. DAVE HANSEN captured his second first of the day when he turned In a time of 56.02 in the 100 yard freestyle. Ricky Whitecar took second and Steve Pryor finished fourth. Without the help of injured Curt Calder the Wildcats lost the 500yard freestyle. "Mighty Mouse" Bruce Kitchen set the pace for his teammates by finishing second. Mike Sonn-tag Sonn-tag took third and Kevin Heber finished fourth. SOPHOMORE SCOTT Sap-penfield Sap-penfield set a school record on the 100 yard backstroke with the very good time of 1: 06. 9. A much Improved swimmer, Kent Nelson, finished third with his personal best time of 1: 11.6. Steve Kartchner took fourth. Ken Wagnon who is starting start-ing to find the feel of the water, took finish in the 100 yard breaststroke with his personal best time of 1: 17.4. Jeff Egly finished second and Harold Donaldson finished third. IN THE 400 yard free relay, the Wildcats finished second and third. Ricky Whitecar, Dave Hansen, Steve Kartchner and Jon Lee finished second. Finishing third was the relay team composed of Pryor, Williams, Somner, and Sappenfield. Coach Maroney credits the success of his team to the dedication of his swimmer and the parents of the swimmer who take their boys to the Bountiful Recreational Pool at 6:50 a.m. every morning. The Wildcat swim team swims an average of 7,800 yards five times per week. |
