Woods Cross nign scuuui swim team has been belting out wins left and right In recent dual meets with schools from throughout the northern section of the state. Two young men from the area who are an added bonus to the organization are Bruce Kitchen, son of Chuck and Margie Kitchen and Ricky Whitecar, son of Rick and Linda Whitecar. Bruce has been a big point getter in the distance swims (500 yard freestyle) while Ricky has been equally effective in the sprints. He was a member of the 400 yard freestyle relay team, who recently broke the school record. The Woods Cross team works out each morning for about 2V4 hours at the Bountiful Boun-tiful Recreation Center under the able direction of Coach Marooney. Bowling is a very busy sport this time of year. Recent winners at the local lanes are four women who enjoy the sport year round. Jan Hadley, Dorothy Drake, Karen Anderson and Judy . Greene were recently named champions in their division. Congratulations to Cindy Bullock, Michelle Thomas, Chad Hammond and Jody Earnshaw. They were named to South Davis Junior High School Citizenship and Honor rolls this past quarter. Home for Christmas Is Jaren Rucker, son of Fred and Carol Rucker. He is stationed sta-tioned with special forces in La. He recently completed', .training and Is presently enjoying en-joying a visit with his family. Stake Board members for Mutual organization held their annual Christmas party at the home of Lowell Carr. The group enjoyed dinner and were entertained with the music of the Viewmont Madrigals, in charge of the event were Karen Carlile and Lincoln Haacke. Sunday is not only Christmas, Christ-mas, but a special day to attend at-tend the church of your choice. Special services are planned for all wards this week at Sacrament hour, with the exclusion of Sunday School and Priesthood on that day. A special Christmas message mes-sage was given at the Woods Cross Stake High Priests Quarterly Conference which included partners on Sunday evening. Special speaker was former Stake President D. Hatch Howard. Woods Cross High School and Viewmont High School music departments both presented their Christmas concerts on Tuesday evening, involving numerous students from the area, and lots of families to enjoy this special presentation. Members of Camp Eutaw, Daughters of the Utah Pioneers, met at the home of Mrs. Margaret Sundstrom on Friday afternoon for their annual Christmas party. The business portion of the meeting meet-ing was conducted by Vice Captain Diane Anderson. The lesson by Barbara Zollinger was followed by special Christmas experiences by Beth Roundy, Alton Olsen and Stella Kerr. Following the exchange of gifts, refreshments were served by Blanche Nelson, Ann Mills, Blanche Ruflin, Jean Brown, Jessee Boulton and Margaret Sundstrom. The Sixth Ward held their annual Christmas party on Saturday evening at the Cultural Cul-tural Hall. In charge of the event which included a spaghetti supper, were Larry and Carolyn Landward, Nel-don Nel-don and Diane Jensen, Paul and Kathy Haan, Kim and Leslie McCrae and David and Terry Mann. Following dinner the group was thoroughly entertained by Granite High Madrigals. And for those of you who attended the Festival of Trees at the Salt Palace last weekend, Viewmont High Madrigals were part of the choruses included on the performance per-formance list as well as the chorus. The musical groups from all the schools are flying from program to program, providing special Christmas music for this special season. i An unusual work day for the ' Sixth Ward was conducted by Jill Morris and Rolayne Collins. "Through the Eyes of a Child" theme for the day, produced special stories of Christmas traditions, new ideas for gifts and tree decorations, foods and fun for the season were included in the day's events. Luncheon was served following numerous demonstrations of candle making, rolling marshmallows, etc. Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Fames and Bill spent time visiting with relatives in Pocatello, Idaho this past weekend. Hosts for a special Christmas Christ-mas party were Bishop and Mrs. David. Sundstrom on Friday evening. Invited guests included Mr. and Mrs. Jay Salter, Dave and Vivian Wright, Ken and Ireta Jensen, Jen-sen, Gary and Pat Ford, John and Ann Albrecht, Kent and Diane Moyes, Forster and Letha Bens, and Sharon and Richard Pierce. The birthday of her mother, Mrs. Mildred Stowe Anderson of Ogden, gave Mrs. Diane Gibbs the opportunity to get family members together for visiting and a day together. Luncheon was served at El Matador, with the gathering of daughters, in-laws, granddaughters grand-daughters and friends. The holidays have given opportunity for the sharing of talents in the Third Ward Relief Society. On Tuesday, four groups were formed, with instruction given in Christmas stories, cookie decorating, construction of family Christmas cards, and the making of Christmas corsages. cor-sages. In charge was Janet Davis and Mera Lee Ure. Following the classes, a Christmas luncheon was served. Sorry to have Kent and Linda Smith and four children leave the area. They have moved to Val Verda and will be missed by their many friends and neighbors throughout the community. Moving into their home in Meadowlane subdivision are the Bradfords and daughter. They are Bountifulites and are welcomed to the area. John and Shiree Argyle Burnham are parents of a son, born this past week in Lakeview Hospital. Proud grandparents are Ralph and Lucille Argyle. New residents in the area are Mr. and Mrs. Jim Kagie. They are residing in the Wlnegar apartments. Mr. Kagie is the son of Annabelle Kagie Dixon and Dick Kagie. Home for the holidays are college students from near and far. Annette Allred, daughter of Juan and Gladys Allred is visiting her family' between quarters at Utah State. Shelly Anderson, son of Fred and Gwyn Anderson and Cory Christensen, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Christensen are home after a successful rodeo season at Snow College in Ephraim. Also Carla Anderson, daughter of Floyd and Jeanine Anderson Is home from Ricks College. Cheryl Carlile, daughter of Garvin and Karen Carlile, and Julie Allen, daughter of Mary Alien are both enjoying the holidays after a quarter at Utah State in Logan. ' Becky Bills, daughter of Bob and Lydella Hatch; Laurie tjioos, daughter of the Calvin Gibbs; and Judy Lar-sen, Lar-sen, daughter of Tom and Lael Larsen are all enjoying a respite from studies at Weber State College. Cathy Howard, daughter of the Hatch Howard's has been studying at Brlgham Young, but following a brief vacation will enroll at the University of Utah winter quarter. Congratulations to Kevyn and Marilyn Sears, who are parents of their fifth child, a girl, born at Lakeview Hospital. Hospi-tal. The Sears family now reside on 1300 South. Woods Cross Second Ward families enjoyed a special Christmas party on Saturday 1 evening, under the direction of Bud and Carol Haacke. Irv and Ruth Cleverly and Ray and Bemice Couch. A special program by Marilyn Dover and family was the concluding conclud-ing event of the evening. Sincere sympathy is extended ex-tended to Harold and lla Kelson. Kel-son. Their son passed away this past week at his home in Southern Idaho. The Kelsons have been in Idaho attending services and caring for family members. |
