THE HELPERS are i S members of the 2952nd Com- ' bat Logistics Support i Squadron at Hill. For several years now the squadron has " volunteered its services at Christmas time for the repair ' operation. "We have had so many toys given to us this year that I have lost exact count," said TSgt. Jim Hendershott, who is in charge of the operation. j "WE originally had an- j ticipated giving four toys per child," said the sergeant. "We now estimate that we can give each child up to five items." The donations come primarily from on-base per-: per-: j sonnel who have rounded up !i discarded or broken toys about the house and brought ; : them to the base. jj j THE PROJECT is handled ; i : by the base chaplain's office i who screens the requests ; from various families to see if : they are needy. ' Once the toys hit Santa's j i ; repair shop, they are inspect- I I j ed, sorted, cleaned, fixed, and j j : painted. jj TOYS RANGE from build- j : ing blocks to bicycles, wagons 1 : to dolls, puzzles, toy animals, ; : ; and about everything invent-: invent-: ed, said Sergeant Hen- i dershott. ! : About 300 toys are repaired each day by the six men. Once repaired, they are picked up by the sponsors of the families and will be distributed dis-tributed to the families in ! time for Christmas, j AFTER Friday the men will go on Christmas leave. It J will be a welcome rest for the ; squadron members who spend much of their time at ; various Air Force activities throughout the world on temporary tem-porary duty. |
