Show Speech Tourney Held At Btfl. High Bountiful High School was the setting for a ten-school speech tournament on Tuesday Tues-day evening, Dec. 13. Of the ten schools present, Bountiful High won the sweepstakes award, defeating East High School by a score of 78 to 77. Davis was third with 67 points; Provo, 61; Brighton, 46; and Cottonwood, 42. Judge Memorial, Viewmont and Hillcrest High Schools also participated. SEVERAL Bountiful students performed particularly par-ticularly well. Kelli Crowther, a BHS junior was the recipient of the first place trophy in impromptu speaking. LeAnn Cutler won second place in extemp speaking. Paul Murphy was the second place legislator. Other Bountiful students who were named tops in their groups were Dennis Gilsdorf, boys extemp; Spencer Hill, impromptu; Rulon McKay and Melinda Cole, oratory; Mike Nielson, humorous reading; and Brenda Whitecar, dramatic reading. THE tournament included nearly three hundred participants par-ticipants and featured top competition in all areas. Winners in the various events were as follows: legislative forum, Bill Darger, East High, and Cindy Kreek, Brighton High; extemp ex-temp speaking, Mike Bailey, East High, and Laura Taylor, Davis High; impromptu speaking, Miss Crowther from Bountiful listed above; oratory, Melissa Dalton, Provo High; dramatic interp, Karen Stoker, Cottonwood High; humorous interp, Stuart Thatcher, Davis High. THE MEET is sponsored annually by the Bountiful High School Speech Department. Depart-ment. Kim R. Burningham and Bryan Bowles, teachers in the department at the school were in charge of the event. |
