POUND CAKE A slice of rich moist pound cake, served to family and friends during the holiday season and topped with a tangy red raspberry sauce, is an elegant dessert. NICK, Marilyn C. Larsen and young Adam are showing this delicious dessert, eye appealing ap-pealing to young and old. Also good with just a hot or cold beverage at most any time of day or evening. Marilyn loves to bake this large pound cake in a tube 5 f nan and it keeps nice and A wist for several days, stored J n a covered container. Fif-J Fif-J een slices can be cut from f the cake. If another fruit sauce or a tangy lemon or v: A slice of fine textured pound cake, rich and moist can be topped with a bright red raspberry sauce for the holidays or for any time you might like a delicious dessert. Marilyn Larson's sons Nicky and Adam enjoy the cake. orange smooth sauce, warm or cold, is your favorite, try it with a variety of sauces. MARILYN was given the recipe by a friend in Danville, III. when the family lived there and it has since been made often in the Larsen home. The cake is rich enough to serve without a frosting too. POUND CAKE xi lb. margarine cup Crisco 3 cups sugar 5 eggs 3 cups flour V2 tsp. baking powder 1 cup milk 1 tsp. vanilla 1 tsp. almond flavoring CREAM shortenings and the sugar until very light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs, one at a time, beating well after each is added. Now stir in the flour and baking powder alternately with milk, stirring until smooth and add flavorings. POUR into a large greased tube pan and bake at 350 degrees for about 1 hour 20 minutes or until golden brown. Cool partially in pan before turning out, be sure to cool cake with the top side up. RASPBERRY SAUCE 1 10 oz. pkg. frozen raspberries, rasp-berries, thawed and drained 14 cup water V2 cup sugar 2 Tbsp. cornstarch 1 Tbsp. lemon juice COMBINE drained juice with water, sugar and cornstarch corn-starch in saucepan. Cook, stirring stir-ring constantly until thick, then stir in lemon juice and berries. Cool slightly to serve. Makes 15 portions. Sauce can be doubled if more is desired on the slice of cake. Marilyn, husband Lowell and six sons live at 3837 South Orchard Drive in Bountiful. The family has lived in several states during their early married life, in Massachusetts, Mas-sachusetts, Illinois, Arizona and finally back to Utah for the past six years and are loving living in this beautiful valley. MARILYN is a very talented talent-ed pianist and has students. She also loves to cook, fortunately, for-tunately, because with six growing sons, it requires lots of good food. The older boys and their father love to back pack in the mountains, both summer and winter, or at any season. They like to water ski in summer ; and love the snow skiing all ' winter. They all participate in I most all sports. GORDON, 16, is president of the studentbody at Woods Cross High School and Clair, 14, is president of the freshman fresh-man class there. The other boys are Andrew 11, who loves to sing, Benjamin, 7, Nicholas, 5 and Adam, 2. Mr. Larsen is manager of the Cordin Company in Salt Lake City, kj |
