Show BHS debaters score high at tournament The Bountiful High School Speech and Debate Team completed com-pleted their 1985-86 season recently recent-ly by a very successful performance perform-ance at the National Forensic League District Tournament held in Hyrum. Bountiful students won the Individual Events Sweepstakes Sweep-stakes trophy, the Student Congress Con-gress sweepstakes trophy, the Leading Chapter Award, as well as qualifying two students to attend the national tournament in June in Tulsa, Okla. .-. nijr - Wnf, If J i Ik l2!V-iiCs 11 ) Lv THE BOUNTIFUL HIGH School speech and debate team has completed a star-studded star-studded year, receiving scores of awards. Rob Cutler. Kurt Kendell anH Rvan Rncc and the Golden Spike Tournament earlier in the year. DEBATE managers this year have been Jim Barnett, Denise Hassett, Molly Mayo and Jim Fer-nelius. Fer-nelius. Melinda Cole Welch and Kim R. Burningham are teachers. Eubank were fourth and sixth place in dramatic interp. Laurel Clark was fourth place in domestic extemp, and Ryan Russon was third place in the Novice House of Legislative Forum. BOUNTIFUL students in individual indi-vidual events accumulated 43 points to win the sweepstakes award in those categories, ahead of East High School who accumulated accumu-lated 40 points. The Bountiful legislators won the Student Congress Con-gress award by cumulated 29 points with East having 28. The Leading Chapter Award is presented pre-sented to one high school in the area each year for outstanding forensic participation. The National Forensic League Tournament concludes a successful success-ful year for the Bountiful High School speech students which also included the sweepstakes awards at the Bountiful I.E. Tournament ATTENDING the national tournament tour-nament will be Gail Gardner and Molly Mayo. Gail, Bountiful's sterling scholar in speech and drama, dra-ma, won the right to attend the na-tional na-tional tournament by being selected in outstanding orator in the district (the Utah Wasatch NFL District includes all schools in Utah from Salt Lake City and north). Gail's oration, entitled "Marbles," is a plea for improved communication skills. Molly qualified qual-ified by being voted superior legislator legis-lator in the National House of Representatives. Rep-resentatives. She sponsors a piece of legislation which would require further investigation of required immunizations. Molly is a debate manager at Bountiful High School. Besides the two national qualifiers. quali-fiers. Bountiful had a number of other students who placed high. Dave Robinson and Kurt Kendell were third and fourth place respectively respec-tively in Lincoln Douglas Debate.
