Show Water users: here's tips for success By CHERIE HUBER BOUNTIFUL The Pressurized Pressu-rized irrigation water is now on in Bountiful. This year there were 12 breaks in the lines as they were being filled. THE AREA that caused the most difficulty was from Pages Lane to 400 North and the freeway to 9th East. That section of the system that is beginning to rust out was laid with galvanized pipe many years ago. Each customer is responsible for the valve and valve box where the water enters the property. A replacement re-placement lid for the valve box can be purchased at the Bountiful Water Wa-ter Subconservancy for $3. HEAVY DUTY keys that will turn difficult valves can be borrowed bor-rowed from the office. These valves turn only a quarter turn. Older valves are brass on brass and tend to corrode and stick as they age. The newer valves are of stainless stain-less steel or brass on teflon and usually are not difficult to turn. For best results, homes with automatic watering systems should have a good heavy-duty filter fil-ter that will remove the sand and gravel that eventually clog the valves and sprinkler heads. |
