Show Small Business Week declared In ceremonies held here, mayors Dean S. Stahle of Bountiful, Dean C. Argyle of Centerville, Robert W. Arbuckle of Farmington, D.W. "Jake" Simmons of North Salt Lake, Jerry Thompson of West Bountiful and Ralph T. Argyle of Woods Cross joined together to officially declare the week of May 18-24 as Small Business Week in South Davis County. The joint proclamation is in conjunction with a national proclamation issued by President Reagan. RALLYING under the theme "Small Business is Big in the USA," the nation's 14 million small business owners will unite during this week in recognition of their accomplishments. Coordinating local activities is Kenneth J. Rose, the owner of General Business Services in Bountiful and the Chairman of the Small Business Council for the Bountiful Area Chamber of Commerce. Com-merce. "The nation's economic problems do not exist because of small business," said Rose. "Historically, "His-torically, small businesses have made a major contribution to America's prosperity by providing employment for 50 million people or approximately half of the total U.S. Employment. In Utah 98 percent per-cent of the businesses employ fewer few-er than 100 people, representing over 51 percent of the total labor force. And, small business owners will continue to keep Americans employed in good times and bad." ROSE added that small busines ses which "contribute about 38 percent of the Gross National Product" Pro-duct" and which "have been responsible re-sponsible for over half of the new products and service innovations in the past four decades" will "continue to be a vital force in America's and Utah's economy." Rose reported that planned activities acti-vities for Small Business Week will include presentation of special small business awards to three business owners in South Davis County at the regular Chamber meeting on May 21 and participation participa-tion in the State Awards Ceremony presented by the Salt Lake City District Office of The Small Business Busi-ness Administration. Two Bountiful Bounti-ful business owners are slated to receive statewide awards at these ceremonies. |
