Show Locals set for state tennis meet MURRAY-Defending region and state tennis champion Highland High-land had little trouble winning the Region Four title again Monday afternoon, during competition at the Sports Mall. The Rams beat back a determined deter-mined East squad for the title. Bountiful was third, followed by Davis, Viewmont, and Woods Cross. In the race for state meet qualifying, qual-ifying, Bountiful's Steve Mihas took third in first singles to earn a playoff berth. He will be joined during this weekend's competition at Liberty Park by teammates Scott Kendall, third in third singles, sing-les, and the doubles team of Troy Anderson and Josh Johnson, who finished second in first doubles. The only other local school with players qualifying for state was Davis. The Darts will send Dave Downey in second singles, the team of Tom Otterson and Chris Watkins in first doubles, and the team of Mike Taylor and Ridge Hartley in second doubles. Bountiful coach Jack Senninger said Tuesday morning that the tournament may begin today rather than on friday , due to some schools taking scholastic aptitude tests this weekend. Either way, the season will conclude by Saturday evening. |
