Show Oak Hills holds fair How does a lazer light work? What happens to your lungs when you smoke? What causes a rainbow? rain-bow? What does bacteria look like and what causes it to grow? What are the effects of sugar and soda pop on your teeth? What are crystals crys-tals and how do they grow? These were some of the questions researched resear-ched and answered in the recent schoolwide Science Fair at Oak Hills Elementary, 1235 E. 600 S., Bountiful. After spending weeks to months in preparation, there was a special excitement in the air as students from Kindergarten through sixth grade brought their science fair projects to school. Each student shared his or her individual exhibit with classmates, teachers and students stu-dents from other classes during the day, and were on hand in the even ing to demonstrate and explain projects pro-jects for parents and family members. mem-bers. With almost 100 percent participation partici-pation and a great turnout of family support, over 525 students received re-ceived special Principal Awards from their teachers and Principal Verlan Terry. Mrs. Mary Carter, fifth grade teacher, along with Principal Prin-cipal Verlan Terry and Mrs. Jan Hymas, PTA Gifted Chairman, initiated in-itiated the Oak Hills Science Fair with great planning and support from teachers, parents and PTA Room Mothers. But the efforts of the students and the enthusiasm generated for learning and sharing new ideas and the results of the science projects produced a highly successful and rewarding experience experi-ence for all who attended and participated. |
