Fairbanks, son of Elliott and Dawn Fairbanks of Bountiful, completed his bachelor's degree in integrated studies at Weber State College. In a ceremony Dec. 18 at the University of Utah conducted by Major General Christiansen, he received re-ceived a commission as an officer (Ensign) in the U.S. Navy. His orders are to serve in the University's Universi-ty's NROTC unit until April 1 when he is to report to Pensacola, . Fla. with his wife Lisa for flight f training. f In Matt's naval ROTC program, a high point was a summer cruiseN on a Navy Task Force that cruised the Persian Gulf. Afterwards, he flew to Guam and received permis- , sion to take a one-week side trip to Palau in Micronesia where he had served a two year LDS Mission. Matt has commenced a six-year Navy program in which he hopes to fly an F-14 aircraft aboard one of the Navy aricraft carriers. |
