Show Take precautions to avoid home burglary By CHERIE HUBER Now that the holidays are over, most households have at least one expensive new tool , appliance or toy . Here are some tips on . keeping the Christmas presents around to enjoy, as opposed to losing them to a household burglary. Keep an accurate updated list of your valuables, including T serial numbers and identification marks, for insurance purposes and to aid in identifying stolen goods. Photos of special collec- J tions, art pieces and jewelry are also helpful. All valuables ; without special serial numbers should be marked with an engraving en-graving tool or by some other means. Bikes, scooters and other toys should be brought inside when not in use and bikes should be licensed. Sew identification tags on the inside of sleeves of parkas, ski clothing and other clothing that could be lost or stolen. H At the same time, anyone who sees questionable activities in H the neighborhood should call the police and let them do the Ej investigating. Local police and sheriff departments have the I training and the equipment to follow through on suspected I burglaries. The earlier the police are called after a burglary, the I better chance of recovering the stolen items. I Residents can aid the police by writing down the license plate Ej numbers of suspicious vehicles and by being prompt and accu- H rate when calling a report to the police or sheriffs department. H |
