Show Trucking Lav; As Related To Tax Es Explained To help familiarize the public with the new requirement this year of painting or stenciling the gross laden weight on carrier vehicles ve-hicles registered, the State Tax Commis'sion has issued an explanatory explan-atory statement in an effort to help avert difficulties for law enforcement en-forcement officers and the citizenry cit-izenry as well. Leland Wright, Duchesne County Coun-ty treasurer, who has been assigned as-signed by the State Tax Commission Commis-sion to sell automobile and truck license plates for 1956, points out that truck registration fees for 1956 will be based upon the gross laden weight of the vehicle ve-hicle instead of unladen weight. The fees are graduated upward, so that the' heavier the laden weight, the greater the fee per weight unit. The word of each trucker will be taken, when he registers, as I to the maximum load his truck will be carrying during the year and the truck will be registered on that basis. Honor Of Trucker State Tax Commission officials' warn that each trucker should remember that if his vehicle is found to be carrying more than the load for which it is registered, register-ed, he must not only pay the additional' registration fee' but a 100 per cent penalty as well. Explanatory material released through the State Tax Commission Commis-sion explains that if a trucker pays a $100 registration fee when he should have paid $150, when caught he must pay the additional addition-al $50 in registration -fee plus $150 penalty. The new law effective Jan. 1, requires the gross laden weight for which a vehicle', or combination combina-tion of vehicles, is registered be painted or stenciled on both sides of the motor vehicle in figures not less than thee inches in height. The weight figure must be preceded pre-ceded by the letter "U" or other designation denoting the state of Utah, It is unlawful to paint or stencil sten-cil a gross laden weight on the vehicle which differs from that for which the vehicle is registered register-ed and it is likewise unlawful to fail to paint or sencil the gross laden weight upon the vehicle immediately following the issuance issu-ance of 1956 license plates therefor there-for ' |
