Show Altamont & Union Yin Openers; Utes vs longhorns The dopsters had picked Altamont Alta-mont to take the Eagles of Duchesne, Du-chesne, and Union to dump little Tabiona High in the opening round of play in the Uintah Division Di-vision of Region Five' last Friday. They weren't wrong The Long-horns Long-horns went to work in the last half of a ball game that was mighty close the first two periods, to win going away 61-43. Union was held to a 15-23 score the first half by a smooth little ball club from Tabby, but the Cou-gars Cou-gars bench strength was too much for a five-man team, and they piled up a 62-26 score. Duchesne went to work the first period and had the Longhorns on the short end of a 12-10 score at the " quarter. Altamont led 26-20 at the half. Grant Drolllnger and David Hislop with 18 points each, led the Altamont offease, while Guy Mayhew, a 5'9" junior led the Eagles with 10 points. Used Every Player Coach Glen Allred gave every kid on his team, which includes 14 players, a chance to play in (Continued On Page 7) Altamont & Union Win Openers; Utes vs Longhorns (Continued from Page One) the ball game, and 11 of them came through with at least 2 points. Allred kept his starting five in the ball game most of the first three quarters when the score stood' 41-22. From then on the junior and senior subs played the game, and were plenty hot. Lane Josie, Max Giles and Larry Van Tassell led a fighting little Tabby crew and until they ran out of steam, made a very interesting ball game of the league opener. Coach Mickey CuIIetin has a gang of kids that will be plenty tough in their small gym at home. There were no outstanding scorers for Union, with top honors -going to sophomore Gordon Bascom and junior Roy Moulton, who each collected col-lected 9. Next Games Friday 13th Friday the thirteenth will be the day when one of the two teams picked to win the honors this year will bow out of the league lead. Altamont's trek to Vernal to play the Utes their first league game, can either put the Longhorns' in the favorite spot, or it can drop them to the .500 standing in the league, and give the Utes the bulge. If Valoy Eaton is out of the Ute lineup, it wouldn't be a miss to suggest the Longhorns might pull the upset and beat Uintah. Duchesne will be guests of Union at Roosevelt in the other league contest. No predictions' here, ex- cept the dopsters seem to think the Cougars' bench power will do the trick and gave them a 2 games won standing. Little Tabby draws a bye. Friday's games will start at 6:45 with a "B" team contest, and the main show will get on the road at 8 p.m. Last week's box scores: UNION G F r P Benson 3 2 17 Moulton 2 4 3 9 Bailey 3 2 2 8 Rawlings 0 0 0 0 Morrill 110 2 L.
