Show Wrestling Duals Over, Prepare For Region Tourney i L Davis Paced The Region 4 Schools, Going Undefeated In Duals, Which Included A Close Win Over Bountiful. VIKWMONT was then the only local side involved in a tournament over the weekend with their varsity claiming loin th in the Pleasant Grove event with theirjunior varsity placing second. Davis came into town without a region dual meet loss and they left Bountiful the same way with their thrilling victory over the host Braves. The Darts built up a big lead in the lower weights only to hang on for their lives as the Bountiful side pinned the last three matches to almost catch their guests. Bountiful-Davis DKRKK GREEN of Davis took Salari of Bountiful 7-0 and then Shawn Robinson of the Darts pinned Thain of the Braves. Jeff Olsen got six quick points for the Braves with a pin over Todd Collins and then came the crucial match. As it turned out this match was the difference in this meet as Gerrard of Davis nipped Ortolani of Bountiful 8-7 in a somewhat controversial match. Rodger Reynard of Davis followed with an 1 1-1 win over Ron Remigi which Davis followed up by Chris Cardinet pinning Eddie Snow. Benson Alder of Bountiful won by a default at 138 pounds but then Davis won the next two matches with Jones beating Kurt Sheppard 7-1 and Nate Hinckley beating beat-ing Trent Jones 12-1. Erickson and Ken J Fincher all lost on points. j , Viewmont The big news for the Vikes this past week was their showing at the Pleasant Grove Invitational over the weekend. The varsity club placed fourth, in an eight team event, behind Pleasant Grove, Layton and Spanish Fork. 3 j, TWO VIKINGS claimed individual crowns with Jeff , Sowell winning in the 1 19 pound division and Shon Wilson claiming the top spot at 145 pounds. Three other Vikings were in the finals but lost in their final match, taking second were Adam Howard at 1 12, Dave Baleur who lost ' in overtime at 1 32 and Matt McNiel who got out of bed with ' f 1 the flu at 138. Dwayne Hatch of the Vikes came through the consolation bracket to claim fourth at 126 as did Mark ' 1 Pozzouli at 167. 1j Nine junior varsity wrestlers placed in their tournament ' with Collin Wilson (1 12), and Rusty Foster (126) winning the individual titles. Casey Klienman (145), Kyle Foster (138) and Rodger Mann (119) all placed second for the lW, Vikes while Todd Cawley (105), Spencer Leavitt (132), ! Brian Bloomfield (167) and George Eames (185) were all in ' t-third t-third spot. jjq "THE JUNIOR varsity kids really pleased me because -m they have shown some great improvement over the year. , .. Earlier this season Pleasant Grove killed us and this time we were only a couple of points behind them. They used . ; upper classmen in this JV event while most of our kids are , sophomores.
