STUDENTS OF MONTH Students of the Month honored by the Bountiful Elks Lodge for December are left to right, Tim Haslam, Viewmont High; Mark Packer, Bountiful High; Steve Otto, Davis High; and Frank Hendrickson, Woods Cross High. Bountiful Elks Lodge 2442 is pleased to recognize Frank H. Hendrickson, Tim J. Has-lam, Has-lam, Mark Packerand Stephan K. Otto as "Students of the Month" for January. Selection of the students is made through the studentbody of each high school. FRANK H. Henderson is a senior at Woods Cross High School. He lives with his parents pa-rents Jack and Leona Hendrickson Hen-drickson of Bountiful. At Woods Cross High School Frank has had leading roles in two of the school musicals and has been active in one-act plays, children's readers read-ers theatre and assemblies. He has participated in numerous speech competitions in the areas of impromtpu speaking and humorous reading. He has received excellent ratings at the state level in these speech competitions. FRANK IS a member of the Woods Cross Madrigals for the second year and he is the president presi-dent of the Woods Cross Chapter Chap-ter of the International Thespian Thes-pian Society. He has been selected as a semi-finalist in the National Merit Scholarship Scholar-ship competitions. Frank's interests outside of school include reading, writing, writ-ing, music and running. In addition he raises orchids as a hobby and is a hang gliding enthusiast. en-thusiast. HE PLANS to attend BYU and study music and drama with the goal of teaching in these subjects. Tim J. Haslam is a senior at Viewmont High School and lives with his parents Harold and Shirley Haslam of Center-ville. Center-ville. TIM IS on the senior class committee, a school senator, and is secretary of the Viewmont View-mont Chapter of the Vocational Vocation-al Industrial Clubs of America. Amer-ica. He has been on the Viewmont View-mont golf team for two years. Tim is very' active in Junior Achievement, having been a member for five years. AS A member he was 1981-82 1981-82 V.P. of marketing of the year. 1981-82 recipient of the High Sales Award, finalist for first vice president of achievers achiev-ers Chamber of Commerce for the Salt Lake area, recipient of Dale Carnegie Scholarship, member of the Junior Achiever Company of the year for three consecutive years, president of the Junior Achiever Company Com-pany for 1982-83, semi-finalist two years for president of the Colorado Junior Achievers Conference, and finalist for outstanding young businessman. busi-nessman. Tim is an Eagle Scout with Gold Palm and has been assistant assis-tant patrol leader and head patrol pat-rol leader. He has played in the church basketball league for the past four years. HIS HOBBIES include golf, skiing, coin collecting, match collecting and photography. He has won several photo awards at the Davis County and Utah State Fairs. Service projects include help to the elderly and widowed. Mark Packer is a senior at Bountiful High School. His pa rents are Dee and De,anna Packer of Bountiful. AT BOUNTIFUL High School, Mark is a member of the National Honor Society, the Ski Club and the Letter-man's Letter-man's Club. He is the Bountiful Bounti-ful High School Sterling Scholar Scho-lar in English. Mark is a sports enthusiast both in and out of school. He has lettered on the Bountiful High baseball team for the past two years and is looking forward for-ward to one more season. Mark also played and lettered on this year's varsity football team. In his spare time he referees re-ferees for the youth basketball association six to nine hours during the basketball season. MARK IS a good scholar, carrying a 3.9 gpa. He has been on the high honor roll for the past three years. This year he is enrolled in AP English and AP calculus classes at Bountiful Bounti-ful High and in addition, is taking tak-ing a college credit physics class at the University of Utah. Mark finds the time, too, to work three to five hours a week in the maintenance department de-partment of the LDS Church after school. Other service for his church includes having been Deacons quorum president, presi-dent, Teachers secretary and youth conference committee member. Mark is an oeagle scout and has earned his Duty to God award. STEPHAN K. Otto is the son of Everett W. and Martha Otto of Farmington. He is a senior at Davis High School. Stephan is the associate editor edi-tor of the "Davis Dart," a member of the National Honor Society, the Foreign Language Club and the Glender Spatten Service Club, all at Davis High School. He was involved with the Davis High Mime Troupe during the school year 1981. ON STEPHAN'S nomination nomina-tion form he states, "for the last two years I have done the publicity for the school musicals. music-als. 'South Pacific' last year and 'How to Succeed in Business Busi-ness Without Really Trying' this year. Some of the publicity events during both of the years include designing, printing, and distributing posters and arranging to have the musicals announced over all the AM and FM radio stations in the area. Articles appeared in every newspaper from Salt Lake City to Ogden and P.M. Magazine Maga-zine of KUTV Television filmed a segment about 'South Pacific' for their evening show. I appeared on television on the program 'Today in the West' this Jan. 10 and on KALL Radio and FM 94 on Jan. 11. Another interesting aspect is that I contracted with an advertising firm for an outdoor out-door billboard on I-1 5 to advertise adver-tise our latest musical." STEPHAN IS an Eagle Scout and his hobbies include photography, coin collecting, reading, travel, skiing, camping, camp-ing, fishing and dating. |
