Show W eek Reminds Of Importance Of Soil May 8-15 has been designated desig-nated nationally as Soil Stewardship Ste-wardship week. Robert Call, chairman of the Davis SCD (Soil Conservation District), would like to see all church and other groups consider the importance im-portance of soil and water in our lives during the month of May. THE DAVIS SCD has placed 2500 soil stewardship book markers in the county and city libraries and 25 booklets book-lets have been distributed. The Soil Stewardship theme this year is "Living Waters." A few paragraphs by Quentin Lockwood. National Association Associa-tion of Soil Conservation Districts Dis-tricts Soil Stewardship Committee, Com-mittee, describe this theme: "LIVING Waters" brings to mind sparkling waterfalls, waves washing upon th beach, a spring bubbling from underneath under-neath a rock, a gentle rain fatl-ing fatl-ing or the one who said, 'I am the living waters." "Living so aptly describes water. A thirsty man attests to its living qualities, a drooping plant responds to its life giving properties, the skies are washed clear by its falling and a weary soil finds rest in living water. "ALTHOUGH created by God. we can abuse it. pollute it. misuse it. and take from it its living qualities, making it a curse rather than a blessing. It is ours to use. to protect, to keep clean, to appropriate wisely so that it will give life to all it touches. 'We cannot take for granted that w e will always have all the water we need, whre we need it. Now is a time to think seriously se-riously about conservation, pollution, priority usage and our dependence upon living water. "LET US each accept our personal responsibility to be good stew ards of the w ater w e have, lest our land cry out. T was thirsty and you gave me no water to drink'." |
