Show Oppose Rezoning A proposal to re zone land in Central Layton formultiple unit housing was brought before the Layton City Council. Coun-cil. Several area residents were present to oppose the change. The request to rezone from the present R1A and RIB to R-3, which permits multiple housing units, was submitted by Don Crockett and Dee Page. THE LAND is owned by Golden Morgan and lies on the north side of Gentile Street west of the new Fairfield Fair-field Road. It includes 10.35 acres. Mr. Crockett said 165 units would be built under present plans Included would be one, two, and three-bedroom units grouped in three and six unit buildings. The council sent the request to the Layton City Planning Commission for review and a recommendation recommenda-tion and expect to be able to make the final decision next month. MOST OF those who voiced opposition at the hearing hear-ing before the city council said they had bought in the area expecting it to remain "high class" for single-unit dwellings. They said they felt it unfair now to open it for the less desirable multiple unit apartment apart-ment houses. The apartment buildings, taller than most homes, would cut privacy in back yards and interfere with the view, they argued. A PETITION was presented present-ed bearing names of 80 residents who said they had bought in good faith that zoning zon-ing would not be altered to a lower standard. Traffic and child safety problems were also al-so stressed. Mr. Crockett said the buildings were planned to 1 stories high. He said rental units of the type he plans appear to be in considerable demand with other similar setups in Layton mostly filled. He said the units would be built as rapidly as the rental situation appears to justify. |
