Show Off 344 toes By LE ANN BLODGETT Annexation of the 344 acres of Western Holding property southeast of Bountiful was tabled until next week by the Bountiful City Council. "WHEN THIS is annexed we should annex other property along with it," said a councilman. Councilman Sterling Beesley said he thought the proposed 4th East Street should be annexed along with the houses between. A resident said he understood under-stood no annexing would take place until a new zone was created to maintain the mountain lands. "That is true said a councilman, but the Mabey property, spoken of, has been under consideration for a year." IN OTHER action, a hearing hear-ing was set for June 4 at 8 p.m. on creating a commercial-residential zone in the newly annexed Maple Hills area. Bennett Peterson, legal counsel, representing the development explained that the commercial buildings would take on a soft residential residen-tial feeling. J. Golden Barton, one of the principle developers, showed pictures of a development in Colorado that showed a Swiss chalet character. CITY MANAGER Grant Petersen said he hoped it didn't resemble the 4th North shopping center. The council has had trouble over the years getting the owner to maintain it. Don't let one experience destroy the concept," said Mr. Peterson. "I FEEL good about the conceptual approval but want to be restrictive," said Mayor Morris Swapp. Councilwoman Phyllis Southwick said, speaking as a housewife, she would rather drive three miles to a store than have a store as a next-door next-door neighbor. Mayor Swapp said he spoke as a husband and didn't agree. "It would seem foolish to come downtown down-town for a jug of milk," he said. "IT COULD be a good neighbor if planned properly," said City Planner Reed Boothe. |
