Show By RUTH S. PAYNE 295-4287 Long time friends met at city park on Monday evening for their annual summer picnic. pic-nic. Hostesses for the event were Mrs. Bernice Noble and Mrs. Fay Miller. Those attending include Beth Muir, Rhetta Hatch, Delia Tribe, Leone Newton, Ethelyn Hatch, Thalia Hin-derer, Hin-derer, Hazel Huffman, Alice Hepworth and Helen Lee. In addition to enjoying good food and conversation, the women also enjoyed Mrs. Hepworth and her gift of talent and skill of comedy. It's great to see Steven Anderson An-derson home. He is the son of Beverly and Joe Anderson and has been serving in the Seabee section of the U.S. Navy for the past four years. Steven plans to become a civilian, going into construction construc-tion as his profession. His homecoming was somewhat marred by the weekend car accident which hospitalized his sister Robyn. She was seriously injured near St. Charles, Ida. and was hospitalized at Bear Lake Hospital in Montpelier, Ida. She was transferred to South Davis Hospital on Tuesday where she is being treated for a severely broken arm, broken jaw, cuts and bruises. Robyn has been employed at Little America, Wyo. and had gone with friends to Sweetwater near Bear Lake this past weekend, when the accident occurred. Sincere get well wishes are extended to her and her family at this time. The Robert Matheson home has been a center of activities during the entire summer. Relatives from all sections of the states have been visitors, with the last group returning to their respective home this past weekend. Enjoying the canyons, camping and visiting with the Matheson's were a niece and nephew, Tammy Rubow and David Matheson of Chicago, 111. Also from the Chicago area were Mrs. Matheson's sister and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Ken Preglow. Visiting from Alberta, Canada were Herbert Her-bert and Louise Taylor, and from Orem, Mr. and Mrs. Helmut Hobush and family. Mrs. Wanda Park has been in Roosevelt the major portion por-tion of the week, visiting with daughter, Joan and her husband hus-band Steve Davis. She also assisted the couple move into their new home in that city. Mr. Davis is a member of the Roosevelt Police Force, . and is the son of Jay and Delma Davis, also of Woods Cross. Mr. and Mrs. Thayne Christensen and four children returned home recently after a two week vacation to California. In addition to visiting relatives in Fresno and the Los Angeles areas, they also found extreme enjoyment en-joyment at the beaches, Disneyland, Dis-neyland, the circus, Marineland and Universal Studios, in addition to other tourist attractions. Visiting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Otto Ruflin were Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Nelson Nel-son who have been vacationing vacation-ing in the northwest this past month, and stopped for a visit on their return trip home to San Diego, Calif. Mr. Nelson is a brother to Mrs. Ruflin and is a former resident. Mari Lynn Anderson departed on Saturday for Brigham Young University campus, where she will be attending school this fourth-coming fourth-coming year. She recently graduated from Ricks College and will join friends from that campus who plan to continue their education at the "Y." She is the daughter of Warren and Bonnie Anderson. The new park site at 1100 S. and 700 W. has now been plowed and discing and leveling plus planting will follow. It is hoped the new park will be useable by next summer. Glen Ballard, son of Mr. and Mrs. Catvin Ballard, left Wednesday morning from Salt Lake Airport, for Sidney, Australia where he will spend the next two years. Friends and neighbors were at the airport to bid him farewell, as well as Robyn Pearson, former resident, who left for New Zealand at the same time. Lake Powell was the destination des-tination for Mr. and Mrs. Larry Memott and Mr. and Mrs. LeGrande Parkin. They spent a week on a house boat, enjoying the fishing and the quiet lime away from home during their August vacation. The Davis County Fair brought much interest from our area, as 4-H groups entered en-tered special articles for judging in this annual event. A group of girls taught by Mrs. Carolyn Bullock and Mrs. Lulu O'Brien were taught sewing during the summer months, emphasized by embroidery work, and entered en-tered their articles in the fair. Picking up awards after the judging were Cindy Bullock, Erika Lund, Teressa Bigart, Jolene Nelson and Lisa O'Brien. Miss Jamie Deneris, daughter of Andy and Phyllis Deneris, left the airport on Wednesday for San Diego and a stay with relatives in that city. Before returning home she plans a visit in San Francisco Fran-cisco with relatives also. Employees of Woods Cross City and their partners enjoyed en-joyed a special bar-be-que dinner at the Park Bowery on Friday evening. Members of city council, the Police Department, Parks and Recreation, Planning and Zoning, and Variance Committee Com-mittee members were included includ-ed in the guest list. A special program was presented at the conclusion of the dinner. In charge of the event was Mayor and Mrs. LeRoy Parkin, assisted by Dan Evans and Milt Park. Mrs. Vickie Moss conducted conduct-ed a third year sewing class for 4-H this summer, and items completed by the girls were entered in the Davis County Fair. Maryann Moss received the privilege to enter her blouse and skirt in the state fair in addition to receiving top honors at the county. Also entering finished articles ar-ticles were Kristin Moss and Tina Arnett, who also received first and second place ribbons for their blouse and skirt combinations. Mr. and Mrs. Merlin Adams spent the weekend with the Gilbert Hills at their summer home in Oakley. Members of the Sweet Stitchers 4-H group also entered en-tered their summer items in the Davis County Fair. Receiving honors for their completed articles in first year sewing were Lisa Low, Julie Matheson, Krista Shel-ton, Shel-ton, Lori Salter. Tammy Hatch and Karen Matheson. Teachers for the girls were Renee and Annette Allred. Steven Mills arrived home on Saturday evening after completing a two year LDS mission in the Phoenix, Ariz, area. He was greeted in the Arizona capitol by his father, Ray Mills, who drove down to bring Steven back home. Steven is also the son of the late Gertrude Mills. The family have moved from the area since Steven left on his mission, and are now residing in Murray. Visiting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Jim Cleverly this week was former resident, Ronnie Bartholemew, who spent a week enjoying friends and neighbors. She boarded a jet on Saturday Satur-day to return home to Irvine, Calif. Also visiting at the Cleverly's and Mrs. Blanche Moss's home this week was Bonnie Schofield of Three Forks, Mont. Congratulations to South Bountiful First Ward Women's softball team, who brought home Bountiful-Woods Bountiful-Woods Cross Region Championship Cham-pionship this past week, following the double elimination elimina-tion tournament held at Mueller Park in Bountiful. The team is coached by Connie Con-nie Cleverly and complete the season undefeated. Although South Bountiful First Ward Junior Girls were defeated in tournament play in regions, a huge congratulations congra-tulations is sent their way for their representation and sportsmanship. Team members are Rhonda Cleverly, Judy Nelson, Ellen Cleverly, Carrie Turner, DeLys Ostlund, Diane Williams, Sherrie Hart, Mar Gene Anderson, Renee Allred, Cindy Christensen, Darcy Ostlund, Laurie Cuzick, and Shelly Salter. The team is coached by Leola Mikkleson. And. . .continuing to speak of women's activities.... South Bountiful Sixth Ward Women's team were defeated in the final round of tournament tour-nament competition on Thursday evening. They were Woods Cross Slake's second team entered and played excellent ball throughout the series. Team members are Carol Jensen, Judy Bird, Ada Bills, Ireta Jensen, Karen Moore. Lislie McCrae. Vickie Smith, Winnifred Johnston, and Linda Lin-da Myers. The team is coached by Sheila Staker. Irene Allred, daughter of Juan and Gladys Allred, was speaker at a fireside held at the stake house on Sunday evening. Irene spoke about, her 28 day survival trip in the Southern Utah-Glen Canyon areas, and also related experiences at her recent three-weeks at Hill Comorah Pageant in Palmyra, N.Y. Irene leaves this weekend for Brigham Young University Univer-sity where she will continue her education in Journalism and Music. Also leaving for her sophomore year at the "Y'1 Campus is Lethia Ellis.; daughter of Orson and June Ellis. ; Ruth Mikkeleson has moved to Salt Lake City. She has been residing with the Glen Mikkeleson family dur-. ing the summer, and will be missed by her many friends, and associates in the Briar-wood Briar-wood areas. Jeffery Green is home, in a body cast, and improving each day. Jeff was. injured in an motorcycle accident, spent four weeks in Bountiful hospital hos-pital in traction, and is recuperating further at home. He is the son of David and Judy Green. Be sure to have a safe and run weekend, your last three days for sometime to come. The only sad part of the Labor Day Weekend, is that summer is finaling out, and fall is snuggling in. |
