Show A!S PFSSCFVCtiGil Of D'll Crso!! Dccuty A Bountiful citizen. John Call , presented a new plan to the city council on Mill Creek channelization. THE COUNCIL has been studying the problem. One idea that met with much opposition was the widening and hard surfacing of the creek bed. During a slide presentation, he explained that the foliage would be destroyed if the canyon areas were used as a flood basir He recommended retention ponds in the lower areas, possibly west of Bountiful. EACH PORTION of Mill Creek would be treated differently according to the terrain. He recommended a secondary flood plain where the flood water could overflow into an open area. The open area would be used during the dry seasons as a parkway with paths, land-scaping land-scaping with rocks and erosion resistant grass. Many residents who live by Mill Creek have already created their own secondary flood plain by terracing their yards into layers, where the water can overflow into one area before coming into their homes. 'THERE WILL be a lot of work and plans before the decision is made', said city Engineer Jack Balling. Mayor Morris Swapp thanked Mr. Call for the ideas and the enlightening slide presentation, la |
