Show Reg. 11 Officials Vote for Sports Cut-backs - The Region 1 1 1 Board of Managers; met in Salt Lake March 18 and decided to initiate certain conservation measures concerning sports programs, and these newly-adopted newly-adopted steps will have an affect on the number of games played and schedules, for athletics at Park City High School, The Board of Managers consists, of 16 principals, representing everv school in Region 11. Park City High School Principal Jack Dozier explained that the program hits were made primarily for Vvq reasons: the high cost of energy? needs (i.e. gasoline and transportation costs dur-v dur-v ing road trips) and the large amount of time athletics took -v away from academic schedul-' trig r The new policies include the . 'following: j' No athletic competition will take place during the week prior to Thursdav at 3:30pm. Basketball games and wrestling matches were cut from eighteen to sixteen . during the regular season. Ninth grade competition, has been eliminated; consequently, conse-quently, there will be no more v freshman competition (ninth graders must compete either on the junior varsity or varsity 4 level). - ' Tennis matches have been reduced from eight to six; ? gymnastics from eight to five. Girls basketball games were cut from 18 to 16: girls volleyball from 12 to 10. Dr. Dozier said the Board also encouraged local schools r. to combine athletic events, adding there was a possibility three basketball games, boys and girls, could be played on a .. . typical Friday night. |
