The object of the mass meeting is to devise ways and means for the entertainment enter-tainment of the old soldiers who will visit tho national encampment in tho state this summer. Comrade William Bostaph read interesting in-teresting letters from Grand Army representatives rep-resentatives In tho states of Pennsylvania Pennsyl-vania and New York, making inquiries regarding hotel rates and other accommodations ac-commodations for the traveler in Og-den. Og-den. Tho letters stated that a train load of veterans anticipated coming to Utah the day before tho opening of the national encampment at Salt Lake and the members of the party desired to spend the day in Ogden. The matter mat-ter will be referred to the Ogden executive exec-utive committee of the G. A. R. national na-tional encampment. The idea prevailing prevail-ing among the members of the Dix-Logan Dix-Logan post is that Ogden should put forth a special effort to make ample provision for the entertainment of this advanced guard of "Boys in Blue," and see to it that tho' are properly entertained enter-tained while visiting here. That this will bo done x there is no room for doubt. AN ADVANCE GUARD IS COMING TO OGDEN BEFORE OPENING OF G. A. R. ENCAMPMENT. Dlx-Logarj Post Plans for Reception of Eastern Delegations of "Boys In Blue." Tho regular meeting of tho Dix-Lo gan post of tho G. A- R. of Ogden was held In the Veteran Fireman's room in the city hall last evening, there being an exceptionally largo attendance of the members of the post. Tho veteran soldiers of Ogden aro much interested in the coming national encampment to be held In Utah next August, and also In tho state encampment of the Grand Army, which will be held in 6alt Lake on the 29th of this month. It was stated at the meeting last night that there would bo not fewer than 30 Ogden representatives at the state encampment. en-campment. Comrade Thomas Harris of tho Maxwell Max-well post of the Grand Army of Salt Lake, attended the meeting last evening even-ing in the Interests of the candidacy candi-dacy of United States Deputy Marshal L,ucian Smythe, for department commander com-mander of the state organization of tho G. A. R. The local post took no official action in the matter. The, other candidates mentioned for this position are Colonel George B. Squires and Comrade W. II. Rowe, both of the Maxwell post. The matter of tho mass meeting called by Mayor Brewer, which will be hold In the county court house next Tuesday evening, was considered at the mooting and it was unanimously decided that the members of the Ogden |
