Show RE-ORDAINED AS MINISTER AFTER PERIOD OF TEN YEARS New York, April 17. After having been dismissed from the Presbyterian ministry ten eais ago for drunkenness, drunken-ness, the Rev Dr. Harvey Graeme Furbay will be re-ordalned at a meeting meet-ing of the New York Presbtery next Monday. Dr. Furbay, who is a graduate grad-uate of Princeton theological seminary and besides has the degree of Doctor of Philosophy, ten rears ago was the pastor of the Oxford Presbyterian church at Philadelphia at a salary of $8,000 a year. Then his wife died, and he sought dissipation to bring forget-fulness. forget-fulness. He sank rapidly and on coming com-ing to Now York was arrested several times for drunkenness, and served time. This, of course, resulted in his dismissal dismis-sal from the ministry but later he became be-came interested In mission work and preached in the streets, aiding the derelicts in the city. Such a change came over him that he was appointed secretary of the Industrial In-dustrial Christian alliance In Bleecker street, where his conscientious work attracted such favorable attention that it was decided that he would be valuable val-uable man again in the pulpit. When seen last night, he declined to discuss himself, and appeared supremely happy hap-py and said simply, "I earnestly hope to repay the Presbyterian ministry." I |
