Show "A Nautical Knot" Presented at the Orpheum Theatre Last Night Entertaining a large crowd, students of "Weber Normal collego presented their first opera, "A Nautical Knot," at the Orpheum theatio last evening. Under tho direction of William H. Manning and from the pens of Maude I Elizabeth Inch and W. Rys-Hcrbert, the play was presented in two pretty acts. Julia, tho haughty bells of Barnsta-pool, Barnsta-pool, who is beloved by tho sailors of tho "Bounding Billow," is as proud as she is beautiful and scorns their affections. Miss Lottio Hammar in the rolo of Julia was voted as a success suc-cess in her characterization of Julia. She has a pretty soprano voice, and during the course of the operetta, sings a number of well , chosen selections. selec-tions. Barnabas Lee, a "wandering artists, art-ists, who has the success of winning tho love of Julia, was portrayed by Bert Lcishman. Mr. Leishman has a tenor voice of promise. Nance, a gentle maid of Barasta-pool, Barasta-pool, who is beloved by Joe Stout, a stalwart mate of the bounding deep, is kept in doubt as to her sweethearts real affections. Tho role of Nance was enacted by Miss Luella Nicholas, Miss Nicholas has a well developed mezzo-soprano voice. Bill Salt, (Wallace Budge), and ancient an-cient mariner, proves to bo the only one In the opera who is not worried by his standing with the girls of the. sen town, Joe Stout seeks his friends, Bill Salt and asks him to tell Nance of his love. Much against his will, Bill undertakes the tasks but mistaking mistak-ing Julia for Nance, tells her that Joe seeks her hands. Julia is surprised at first, but sends Bill to Joe with her answer. From this situation, the operetta op-eretta .progresses, including many humorous hu-morous scenes, as well as a number of pretty scenes. A year elapses between the two acts, to the eve when tho sailors return re-turn from a year of adventure upon the deep. Matters between tho girls of Barnstapool and the sailors of the "Bounding Billow" are straightened out. Jce explains to Nance of the mls-tako mls-tako made by Bill Salt, and Julia is happy over the return of Barnabas Lee. , Several selections were sung In unison by the Boys' and Girls' Glee club, while chorouses of eight boys and eight girls furnisned a number of songs, during the evening. The college col-lege orchestra and the Orpheum or- : chestra un'der the direction of Prof. E. W. Nichols, gave the music fori k the evening. Tho many who attended the play wore well pleased with the production and although there were a few places when tho action halted a little, still tho whole was well presented and enacted. en-acted.
