Mm "While Salt Lake is planning these extensive improvements, Og- 1 ien should be proceeding in the same line to prepare for the future. 1 At present Ogden has a water supply which is not sufficient to meet' II the requirements of the homes in the months of July and August. Hh The inflow at the reservoirs is not large enough and the mains leacl-11 leacl-11 ing out are too small. The wells at Artesian Park have reached the limit of production, and some other source of water supply must be 1 developed. Foor a number of years the city engineer's office has 1 been working on plans to utilize the flow of a big spring at Skull HI Crack, on the South Fork, and to do so has worked out a storage reservoir which will hold 7000 acre feet of the flood waters of the IKj South Fork and allow the spring water to be diverted from the farm- i ers for city purposes, the stored water to be given in the irrigation I season as an equivalent. ' I ' ! To store this water, pipe it to Ogden and extract from the j water in its big drop the electrical energy will call for a considerable J outlay, in addition to the laying of mains for the north and south parts of the city which are now given a service which is not all that $ it should be. Kfi Ogden to grow must have these improvements and the city au- 'II thorities will be supported in the progressive steps nccessarv to at-Hj at-Hj tain that object. " WjM "When the bonding question is up, the city also should make pro- 1. visions for the extending of lines to every home petitioning for' II water. Furthermore, bonds sho.uld be authorized for many of the I civic advantages possessed by other cities which have not been given 1 to Ogden. There should be enlarged play grounds, with athletic fields for the schools; there should he more money to allow the city H lo meet the demands for paving, curb and gutter and sidewalk. There H should be money for a municipal electric service for Ogden." I Ogden is going forward. More people are coming here; more l homes arc being built. Soon Ogden will be a city of 75,000, and the Hi clearing of the way for foundations of a city of that size ninst Ht he started without further delay. |
