Show LAND BOARD TO DRILL A WELL T. H. Merrill of the state land board and W. J. Jjynch, secretary of the board, left last night for Washington Wash-ington county, where they will direct tho drilling of one of tho board's "experimental wells." Tho board has siink numbers of these wells in different parts of tho state to tap subterranean streams for the furnishing of water for domestic purposes on "dry" farms. Not onco has the board missed tapping a subterranean sub-terranean stream. Mr. Merrill and Mr. Lynch departed depart-ed after an all-day session of the land board in the new quarters at the capi-tol. capi-tol. The principal matter up for consideration con-sideration was the request or Juab county citizens, headed by William Bailey of Nephi, to purchase 30,000 aero feet of water from the stato'B Piute Pi-ute reservoir. The deal would amount to about ?400,000. After much discussion tho entire matter Wfcnt over to the December meeting of the board which begins on tho first Wednesday of the month. The boarddeclded that It would be within Its rightB to hold the tpublic sale of the land at Clarion, which reverted re-verted to tho state from tho defunct I Jewish colony, at somo place other than the county seat of Sanpete county coun-ty In all probability, said W. D. Candland, president of the board, tho nalo will bo held at Gunnison, the town nearest to the tract. Tho sale will be held in January, upon a date to be decided upon later. |
