Show MILLIONAIRE AND CHARMING BRIDE Salt Lake, Nov. IS. Wearing each a healthy and becoming tan acquired during the days of tholr honeymoon spent at Island Park, Idaho, Mr. and Mrs. William Averill Ilarriman arrived ar-rived in Salt Lake yesterday morning and departed yesterday afternoon in a private car for San Francisco. They wore married in Lennox, Mass., September Sep-tember 20. Mrs. Harriman was Miss Kittle Lanier Lawrence. Mc. Ilarriman, who is tho eldest son of the late railroad magnate, E. H. Harriman, protested yesterday that his visit to Salt Lake was not of any significance as to railroad matters. He spent a few hours of the forenoon visiting local officials of tho Oregon Short Line In Salt Lake. Will Visit Exposition. After completing the" rounds of the offices, Mr. Harriman rejoined Mrs. Harriman at the Hotel Utah where sho had spent the morning writing letters. Tho two went for nn automobile auto-mobile rido about the city before leaving the city in their private car at 2:25 o'clock yesterday afternoon for San Francisco, where they will visit the Panama-Pacific exposition. Tho past several weeks thoy had spent upon the Harriman ranch in Idaho Ida-ho near Yellowstono park. The courtship of Miss Lawrence by Mr. Harriman was marked by a romantic ro-mantic incident some tlmo before their engagement was announced. While returning from a horseback ride in Central Park, New York, Miss Lawrence was thrown from her horse when the animal became frightened at the elevated train near Ninety-sixth street and Columbus avenue. " The animal reared over backward, pinning pin-ning her to it as it lay struggling to regain Its feet Rescues Future Bride. Mr. Harriman, who was riding slightly in advance, returned quickly to her rescue. Denials of their engagement en-gagement wero mado at tho tlmo, but It was announced later. Mrs. Harriman is a daughter of tho lato Mr. and Mrs. F. C. Lawrence of New York. Mr. Harriman is a Yale graduate of the class of 1913. Aftor graduation, Mr. Harriman worked his way up from a position as a day ln-borer ln-borer in the system of railroads controlled con-trolled by his father's estate to the vice presidency of the Illinois Central railroad and a directorship with the Union Pacific road. Whllo at college he won distinction as an athleto, rowing In tho varsity crow during his junior and senior years. A part of his time since graduation has been spent coaching the college boat crew. n |
