Patten Pat-ten operated tn May wheat In 1909 he did not conduct a corner Jn wheat, several prominent grain operators told the house committee on agriculture agricul-ture on Monday. ' Instead of cornering wheat and holding out for enormous profits, Mr. Patten performed a "beneficent action," ac-tion," according to John C. F. Merrill, Mer-rill, president of the Council of Grain 1 Kxihangcs. who acted as spokesman I for the Chicago board of trade and j other wheat and corn exenanges.
