Show i Cover Crops In Orchard. Advocates of clean culture In orchards or-chards are quoting Sojayne's experiments experi-ments for the government in Washington Wash-ington as showing that It takes more water and trees make less growth. This may be the case with tile young orchard; probably is; but H does not affect the question of cultivation, which, if carried on long enough wltn out added humus, produces a hard pan and very poor physical condition, as was the case at Canon City and other places where tbe government tried experiments ex-periments as to the amount of water required. Tbese orchards are now in fine condition as a result of cover crops and tbe water holding capacity )f the soli has been so increased as to work a great economy. The cultivation cultiva-tion Is also much easier. |
