Show r Gallery exhibits The works of Mark Meinart, a Southern Utah State College art major, are currently on display at the Braithwaite Fine Arts Gallery. His exhibit-which runs concurrently with that of another SUSC senior, Tyrone Crosby-will continue con-tinue through August 20 at the SUSC gallery. Meinart's senior art portfolio includes 17 pieces of ceramics and sculpture and a single etching. Following graduation from SUSC this summer, he plans to pursue work in ceramics at his Kanarraville studio while his wife, Jill, finishes her degree at SUSC. He is currently teaching pottery for a second summer for the SUSC-based Upward Bound program. Meinart stresses digging natural clays, clay processes, and the technical aspects of ceramics to his 17 students. "By concentrating on the technical aspects of the art rather than on correct form or correct aesthetics the students are free to branch out into more creative art, to develop their own particular styles," he said. Meinart considers his own work to be an intensely personal experience. "It's impossible for me to state a definite philosophy of my art because observation and creation constantly change my opinions and attitudes. Often the finished piece is not nearly so important as the process.. .the art." |
