Baseball tortourney continues, winners to advance The third round of play in the District I Senior Little League baseball tournament will be held today in Cedar City. In the opening round of action Tuesday evening Cedar defeated Piute and Dixie downed Parowan to advance to the winner's bracket of the double-elimination double-elimination tournament. Four teams are competeing fo the District title including host Cedar City, plus Dixie, Parowan and Piute. Wednesdays action saw loser meet in the early game capped by the Dixie and Cedar clashing in the night cap. Tonights schedule, Thursday, will pit winners of Wednesdays game between Piute and Parowan against the loser of the Cedar Dixie game. That is slated for 5:30 p.m. At 8:00 p.m. the winner of that game will be forced to play a second game against Wednesdays winner between Cedar and Dixie. Since it is a true double-elimination double-elimination tournament the event could continue through Friday evening with a game scheduled for 5:30, if necessary. Yorke Nelson, District representative for the Little League, Inc., indicated that Jack Carter, president of the Cedar City Senior Little League is in charge of the tournament activities. Winner of the District I title is scheduled to meet northern Utah's District II winner to determine a state champion and the right to advance in the nation-wide tournament schedule. |
