Show YCC Camp stationed atZion Canyon The National Park Service, Ser-vice, in cooperation with the Bureau of Reclamation, has established a non-resident Youth Conservation Corps camp at Zion National Park, Superintendent Robert C. Heyder has announced. The YCC provides summer sum-mer employment for youths ages 15 through 18, male and female, from social, economic, ethnic and racial backgrounds. The program is intended to develop an understanding and appreciation ap-preciation in participating youths of the nation's natural environment and heritage. The non-residen camp draws primarily from local youth, which are transported tran-sported daily to the Park for environmental education and work programs. This forest year at Zion, 20 local youths from St. George, Cedar City, Hurricane and other local towns are participation par-ticipation in the program. As now in operation, the program provides for payment of the mimum wages to participants ($2.30 per hour) for work periods, and a minimum of 10 hours of enviromental education per week. Current projects are located in a variety of Park areas, and include removing old fencelines, rehabilitation work on back-country trails, t and roadside cleanup. The YCC Camp at Zion will continue in operation until approximately August 12. |
