PAROWAN The cancer crusade in the Iron County north area is still underway with more money needed to meet the goal set in the area. Everyone should be concerned con-cerned about cancer as one in every four persons will be touched by it in some form. "Some people believe they can keep cancer out of their bodies by keeping it out of their minds," says Mrs. Frankie Lou Bentley, community chairman for the Parowan area fund raising crusade. Others take the attitude that if cancer strikes them it will be irreversibly fatal, so they try not to think about it, for both of these groups, cancer is more likely to get out of hand because the early warning signals are ignored she said. The American Cancer Society stresses the difference dif-ference between brooding over the possibility of getting get-ting cancer and taking realistic precautions. Knowing the warning signals makes it possible to spot the early symptoms of cancer in the disease's treatable stages. The seven (7) warning signals are: 1. A change in bladder or bowel habits 2. A sore that does not heal 3. Unusual bleeding or discharge 4. Thickning or lump in breast or elsewhere. 5. Indigestion or difficulty in swallowing 6. Obvious change in a wart or mole. 7. Nagging cough or hoarseness. Mrs. Bentley emphasizes that when one of the seven signals appears, it is very likely not cancer, but that only a doctor can tell if the |
