Show Lawmen nab Marijuana grower An out of state marijuana grower and dealer was arrested while transporting 100 pounds of the illigal substance Wednesday evening near Parowan. Brian Evan Casey, 20, Redmond, Calif, was captured at a road block on the Kane Springs Road, west and north of Parowan, through the combined efforts of the Iron County Sheriff's Department, the Beaver County Sheriff's office, the Utah High Way Patrol, the State Forestry and Fire Control and the Parowan City Police Department, Sheriff Ira Schoppmann said. It was apparently the third crop of marijuana being transported from Iron County to California, Schoppmann said. Casey and an accomplice had been raising the substance in a heavily wooded area, with nearly 1000 plants being grown through the course of the summer, he added. Sheriffs received a tip from horseback hor-seback riders alerting them to Casey's presence, Schoppmann said. Officers destroyed plants and seedlings, besides confiscating the 100 pounds, he added, and brought back water storage tanks and various paraphenalia for evidence. Schoppmann said "there must be a lot of money in the stuff," due to the expense and effort made by the accused. ac-cused. A similar incident took place last year when 2,000 plants were destroyed in western Iron County. At that time, Schoppmann said, a three foot marijuana plant was worth $35. |
