Show LIVING IN THE ESCALANTE VALLEY ESCALANTE VALLEY . COORDINATING COUNCIL Mr. and Mrs. Thurmer Jacobs of Cedar City were special guests at the Coordinating Council meeting held June 3. Mr. Jacobs, president of the Radek Corpora-tlon, Corpora-tlon, spoke on the history of Radek Ra-dek and the establishment of the local Industries. Major business of the meeting was the planning of a special visitation vis-itation to the valley on June 22 of representatives of the Salt Lake Small Business Administration. Administra-tion. Visiting the area will be the regional director of the Small Business Administration, t h e branch manager of the Salt Lake branch, and representatives of state agencies concerned with Industrial In-dustrial development. The group will make a survey of the business industry potential poten-tial in the area. The administration administra-tion deals in aiding businesses through loans. Discussion by the council was held on the possibility of establishing estab-lishing businesses In the valley. Possibility of building of a canning can-ning factory and meat processing plant were contemplated. In the event of a canning factory, products pro-ducts to be used would be raised in the valley. A meat processing plant would provide residents of the area with a locker storage place for meat. Representative of the R E A, Gordon Moyle, reported to the council that it was not yet feasible feas-ible to put an electric line to Beryl. He said that a member of the congressional delegation and bureau cf reclamation Is present-ly present-ly helping the REA to become eligible eli-gible for Glen Canyon power. A report was also given by Bry-ner Bry-ner Wood to the Council on kitchen plans for the new recreation recre-ation building. The plans which were recently laid out by a rep-sentative rep-sentative of the Standard Supply Sup-ply Company of Salt Lake City were presented to the council for consideration. ROCKY TUCKER Young Rocky Tucker was injured in-jured Wednesday, June 3, near his home when his homemade rocket exploded upon the igni- tion of the rocket. Rocky, whose right hand was severely injured, was . rushed to the Iron County Hospital by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Hal Tucker. Part of Rocky's right thumb was removed. ' Talking to his father the day after the accident, Rocky disclosed disclos-ed that the accident occurred when the propellent powder of the rocket did not Ignite the rocket roc-ket properly and he went closer to the rocket to check on it. As he did the rocket exploded, injuring in-juring him. SEWING CLASS Miss Mabel Merrill, Iron County Coun-ty home demonstration agent, has been conducting classes for a blouse school held this week at the recreation building. The classes provided women of the valley an opportunity to make blouses and learn how to fit blouse patterns. Women who attended at-tended the three-day school were Mrs. Barbara Laub, Mrs. Allene Smith, Mrs. Marty Wood,1 and Mrs. Edith Hunt WOMEN'S CLUB Mrs. Dorothy Gardner, president presi-dent of the Women's Club, announced an-nounced last Tuesday that Miss Mabel Merrill would be the special spe-cial guest at the next regular meeting which will be held on June 18. She will give a demonstration demon-stration on "quick mixes." The meeting is scheduled to be held at the home of Mrs. Barbara Bar-bara Laub. NEIL STOCK Funeral services were held In Hurricane Monday for young Neil Stock, age 17. Neil died in the' tragic gun accident on Wednesday, Wednes-day, June 3. I Nell was found dead in his car early Thursday morning by a search party that was sent out after his failure to return from rabbit hunting on Wednesday evening. He had been employed at the Bar V Ranch. According to the coroner, he was killed by an accidental self-inflicted self-inflicted gun shot wound, wi.lch CUB SCOUT NEWS The cub scouts enjoyed a summer sum-mer time outing of swimming at Veyo on Wednesday. Accompanying Accompany-ing the boys were Mrs. Bryner Wood, den mother, and Mrs. Wilson Wil-son Scott, mother of one of the boys. Other outdoor activities are being be-ing planned for the scouts during dur-ing the summer. Mrs. Wood said Tuesday that all parents are invited in-vited to attend the cub scout meetings which are held every Tuesday and help plan the activities. acti-vities. , Summertime activities under consideration are, a historical outing, a big game hunt, a fish-1 ing trip, a nature collection trip, a bird-spotters trip, making leaf prints, races and relays, skill games, and building a backyard den. Parents who enjoy outings are encouraged to sponsor trips for the Scouts. Construction recently began on two large air-conditioned potato storage pits east of Wood's Ser-I vice. The storage pits which are being built by the farmers in the valley, will be used to keep Kennebec Ken-nebec potatoes in until they are shipped out to a potato chip factory. fac-tory. Mr. Getfakys will have a preaching service on Saturday night at 8:30 and one on Sunday morning at 10:00. Beginning June 15, the Esca-lante Esca-lante Valley Sunday School will . conduct a daily Vacation Bible School for all interested children and teenagers from ages 3 thru, 16. The school will be held from 9 a. m. to noon each week day. Directing the classes will be Mr. and Mrs. Harold Dillman of Cedar City. NEWS BRIEFS Visiting the Carl R. Anderson family the past week were Mrs. V. McNay, Mr. and Mrs. Ken Wolfe, Mrs. Lottoe Watkins, Ev. erett Anderson and Mrs. Lydia Anderson. Mrs. Watkins Is Ruby Anderson's mother; Mrs. McNay her aunt, and Mrs. Wolfe, her sister. Mrs. Anderson is Carl's mother, and Everett, his brother. I The Bryner Wood family and Joe DelVecchlo family recently had company too. Mrs. Marvel ! DelVecchlo arrived from California Califor-nia where she enjoyed a winter's , visit. She has been spending some time with the Wood's, the 'Del Vecchlo and Mrs. Teressa Flinspach. Visiting also for several sev-eral days were Mrs. James Del and her four daughters of Bullhead Bull-head City, Ariz. Other visitors were Mr. and Mrs. Lane Austin of i Las Vegas, Nev. The Austins visited vis-ited with the Woods and the Marshall Austin family. |
