Show Noted Traveler to Lecture in Cedar City Monday 1 m, I CAPTAIN DeVERE BAKER Noted author and historian, Captain DeVere Baker, skipper of the good raft Leht IV, will be In Cedar City Monday, June 15, to appear as a guest lecturer and to be honored at an author's par- -1 ty. J Captain Baker, a devout Mormon, Mor-mon, seeking to establish scientific scien-tific proof of the Book of Mormon Mor-mon and the Antiquities of Mex-ica Mex-ica records, last year completed a 69 day trek from California to Hawaii. He was attempting to prove that the Prophet Lehi and his followers, who according to the Book of Mormon, drifted from the Gulf of Arabia to Central America Amer-ica about 600 BC and established establish-ed the ancient lost civilization of pre-Columbus time, also drifted to Hawaii and beyond to established estab-lished the Polynesian culture in the Pacific. Captain Baker will address the members of the Klwanis Club of Cedar City Monday at 6:15 p. m. He has also been Invited to appear in a special lecture at the Cedar Stake House under the sponsorship of the Cedar Seveth Ward. His appearance at the Stake House will be a benefit with proceeds pro-ceeds to be used by the Seventh Ward for its building fund. This lecture, open to the public, will begin at 8 p. m. Tickets will be on sale at Hunter Hardware, Cedar School and Office, Drug Center, Bradshaw Firestone, Lunt Motor or from members of the Seventh Ward Elder's quorum. An author's party for Captain Baker will be held at the Cedar School and Office Monday afternoon after-noon In a small 18 x 24 foot raft called the "Lehl IV," a crew of four bearded men and a canine mascot drifted for 69 days on the Pacific Ocean completely at the mercy of tfc wind and tides. It was not until the fourth at tempt that the voyage was sueo-ful. sueo-ful. Capt Baker's remarks will be based on the story of this amazing amaz-ing voyage. |
