Show School Board Sets Tentative Budget; Begins Study ofH.S. Building Plans A public hearing on the tentative tenta-tive budget of expenditures for the Iron County School District during the 1959-60 school year was held Monday, with the total aet at $2,017,972. The total ex-' ex-' penditures for the coming year are slightly lower than the cur-, rent year In which the total is1 expected to reach $2,152,403.50. Major item in the budget is for capital outlay and debt service, ser-vice, which includes building expenditures, ex-penditures, with $881,327 set up for this purpose. RoJary Increases Budgeted for instruction is 5809,000 as compared to $714,500 for this year. A salary increase for all teachers accounts for part of this but the major contributing contribut-ing Item is addition of teachers to provide for kindergartens in the district. Another substantial Increase Is noted In the operation of the school plant budget, with 585,100 set up for this purpose, compared to $73,000 this year. Ad-dltional Ad-dltional school facilities, of course, accounts for the major portion of this. Other items are. budgeted with the 1958-59 budget In parentheses, parenthe-ses, are as follows: Administration, Administra-tion, $33,900 ($29,900). Health. 56,800, ($5,300). Transportation, 535,100, ($3350). Maintenance of school plant, $31,445, ($23,-500). ($23,-500). Fixed charges, $74,500, ($70,-500). ($70,-500). School lunch, $58,500, ($55,-O00). ($55,-O00). Fixed charges Includes such Items as retirement and social Security, Insurance, and collection collec-tion of taxes, etc. At the meeting of the school board following the budget hearing, hear-ing, Superintendent Ianthus "Wright was re-appointed to that position for another two year period. He has served as super-Intendent super-Intendent since 1945. Other Employees The board also spent some considering salary schedules for employees other than teachers. Increases will be allowed by the schedule which has not been finally fi-nally adopted. The board reviewed the building build-ing program and will proceed with planning of buildings particularly par-ticularly the new high school In Cedar City and the elementary school in Parowan. Plans for the latter will be completed in the very near future. However, the board delayed the sale of bonds authorized in the recent election until the funds are actually I needed. Preliminary steps for plans for the new high school were taken tak-en when members of faculty used the time of their spring workshop to visit high schools about the state to study farlli-ties. farlli-ties. They visited the schools at Provo, Orem, Lchi, Highland in Salt Lake City, and Granger. Complete reports are being prepared pre-pared on needs In the locaj school aid facilities studied in other schools. Members of the board also plan to visit such schools, and may invite lay members to make the trip with them. Upon request of a delegation from Escalante Valley the superintendent super-intendent was authorized to make a detailed study of the transportation system In that area and make recommendations at the next meeting of the board. East Elementary Addition The superintendent was auth-orized auth-orized to obtain plns and costs for a folding partition In the all-purpose all-purpose room at the Cedar East Elementary School to provide a room for kinderearten classes. Costs of proposed roofing improvement im-provement changes will also be obtained.
