Show Welcome Mat Out for Lions Conventioneers; Three-day Event Attracts Over A Thousand I The Welcome Mats for nearly 1000 Lions and their partners from throughout the State of Utah were rolled out in Cedar City, today, Thursday, as the first arrivals for the Utah Lions Convention began and is expected to continue con-tinue until noon Friday. Con"ention, according to all reportse, will be the largest larg-est in total numbers ever to be staged in Cedar City. All housing facilities of Cedar City and Parowan, Including private homes have been utilized and still it was necessary to turn down reservations, according to housing chairman Tony Lambert. A delegation from Salt Lake City is even coming In with trailers and will set up at Ray's Trailer Court during the three-day three-day event. It was even necessary to send some of the reservations on to St. George for a cconur. oJa ti oris, it was puirted out Cedar City Lions, hosts for the event, will start rolling this evening eve-ning when they stage at the College Col-lege of Southern Utah auditorium auditor-ium their family "Lions Minstrel" Min-strel" for the entertainment of the conventioneers. Activities for both Lions and their wives will continue through Friday, Saturday and Sunday almost al-most continuously. International representatives of Lions will be here to preside over the activities. They include International Vice President, Per Gustax Stahl of Eskilstrom, Sweden, Swe-den, and International Director, Maurice Perstein of San Francisco. Francis-co. Convention sessions will be under the direction of district governors from the four districts in the state of Utah. General chairman for the convention con-vention Is Whitney Jensen and all members of the Lions and Lady Lions of Cedar City have been assigned on various committees com-mittees to affect the convention agenda and to guarantee Its smooth operation. General headquarters for the event will be at Hotel 1 Escalante. Escal-ante. General sessions will be held In the CSU auditorium and the Governor's banquet, highlight of the convention, and the Governor's Gov-ernor's Ball will be in the CSU fieldhouse. Catering service will be furnished fur-nished by Hotel El Escalante and the Utah Parks Company. |
