He did not bank I there, he was a stranger to the clerk, none of the bank's perfon-nel perfon-nel had ever seen him before. He was asked for identification. Fred fumbled in his wallet and produced his social security card. The clerk shook her head. Fred was both embarrassed and annoyed. Certainly, this was his card showing his correct name and social security account number. num-ber. The Social Security Administration Adminis-tration does not impose that restriction re-striction on the card's use to embarrass em-barrass but to protect people like Fred Smith. Certain dishonest dis-honest people make frequent use of social security cards. Their racket is to pick a random address ad-dress off a street map, use ar alias and apply for a social security card. Banks, generally have been alerted to this prac tion but many unwary merchants mer-chants still accept social security securi-ty cards for identification, and all too often lose money as a result. re-sult.
