Show Selective Service Revamps Classification System Registrants with the Selective Service System, particularly men 1 who have fulfilled their military obligation of active duty and been placed In various reserve components, have met with considerable con-siderable confusion In recent weeks because of changes in classifications. In addition, some of them will probably be more confused when they begin recelv. ing qestionnaires In which they must detail their current status and activities. All veterans who had been previously pre-viously classified as discharged from service or transferred to reserve duty, have been reclassified reclassi-fied in recent weeks, and have been mailed classification cards showing them In VI-A or V-A. I This change of classification has not changed their status in any way. but is merely the result of Selective Service eliminating all reserves or discharge classifications, classifica-tions, and putting the registrants in the other classification. Either classification indicates the individual in-dividual has filled his military responsibilities, unless a new emergency arises. This, of course may result In the calling to duty the men from the various reserves. re-serves. The new questionnaire program pro-gram is the result of the military mili-tary leaders' determining men who may be available for active ac-tive duty In the case of emergency, emer-gency, and will probably also result re-sult In the discharge of many of the reservists. Under this program pro-gram local Selective Service Boards are being requested to determine the "availability" of reserves for active duty in the event of an emergency. The Iron County Board has already al-ready received instructions to mail questionnaires to certain reservists re-servists and subsequently classified classi-fied in availability categories. It is the responsibility of the registrant to return the question- naire as Instructed, then to keep the board fully informed as to any change in status or change in address. It is important that all registrants, not only the reservists, re-servists, keep the board informed as to their current status. It is also important that all registrants keep the board informed in-formed as to any change of status. sta-tus. Including employment, marriage mar-riage or the birth of children. The board can act only on the information infor-mation in the registrant's file, and If full information is not available the registrant may not be properly classified. An appeal is made to all registrants, regis-trants, reservists or otherwise, to accept the responsibility and keep the board fully informed. |
