Show Congressman Dixon Secured by Show 1 As Awards Banquet Guest Speaker j Announcement was made this week that United States Congressman Con-gressman Henry Aldous Dixon will be the speaker at the annual an-nual FFA and 411 Club awards banqut't of the Southern Utah Livestock' Show. This banquet, always a highlight of the annual livestock show, will be held at El Escalante Hotel on Friday, Sept. 7, second night of the three-day three-day event. As In the past, the opening day of the show will be devoted to judging of entries and and various var-ious judging contests participat-ed participat-ed In by 4-H and FFA chapter teams. The second day will be devoted to the annual ram sale, which this year promises to bes by far the best in the history of the event. To date . almost 100 rams have been consigned to the breeding sheep sale and more will be added before the show opens, particularly rams offered by young producers. Efforts will be made to bring In a wide representation of breeders of the West as prospec-tive prospec-tive buyers, and indications are that the local ram sale is becoming be-coming more and more important import-ant and one of the top sales of the season. Sale of fat stock, as usual. will be handled on the final day of the show, when all fat stock lambs, steers and hogs, will go through the auction ring. This year the show will be held at the iron Bowl race track sheds and the Southern Utah auction ring. Work has been under way for some time putting the sheds and ring in shape for the annual event. Ideal conditions will prevail pre-vail at this new location, show leaders state. Judges for the show have been announced by Wallace Sjoblom, in charge of this particular part of the show. Herbert E. Ken-ner Ken-ner of Swift and Company will Judge the swine; Phil R. Shum-way Shum-way of Brigham Young University Universi-ty will juge the beef cattle, and Milton Madsen of the Utah State Agricultural College, will handle the judging of breeding sheep. Each will have able assistants in order that judging can proceed without Interruption. Jim Bennett of the Utah State Agricultural College staff will do the Judging of the fat sheep exhibited ex-hibited while Wells S. Farrer. Beaver County FFA leader, will do the Judging of the dairy cattle cat-tle division. Only minor changes have been made in the rules and regulations, regula-tions, with the most important one dealing with the sifting of animals to be exhibited as a means of maintaining a high quality standard. This rule provides pro-vides that competent persons will be named to act with the Judges as sifting committees. Sifting will be done at the time the various classes are judged and the committee has the authority authori-ty withdraw from competition, any entry that does not meet classification requirements, or that is not considered nf a grade quality good enough to compete. |
